Registering with the ASAC is a three-step process

Welcome to the Academic Support and Access Center. The university is committed to making reasonable accommodations for qualified students with disabilities. In order to promote full participation in academic programs and other campus activities, the Academic Support and Access Center provides a range of academic and disability support services to students. We encourage you to look at our website at www.american.edu/asac to review the services available to you.

    1. Submit documentation of your disability
    • Documentation should be information from an appropriate licensed medical provider or clinical professional. IEPs or 504 plans may be included as additional information.
    • Documentation guidelines can be found at Documentation guidelines.
    • Your documentation can be uploaded when submitting the Student Accommodations Questionnaire (see Step 2 below). Documentation can also be sent by email (asac@american.edu), fax (202-885-1042) or mail (to the address below). The ASAC email and fax are confidential means to share your information with us. All records are kept strictly confidential and are shared with university personnel only on a need-to-know basis.

    2. Complete the Student Accommodations Questionnaire
    • Click Register button at the top of this page.

    3. Meet with an ASAC counselor
    • In this meeting, the ASAC counselor will discuss your requested accommodations, available services, policies and procedures.
    • Schedule your appointment by calling 202-885-3360. As accommodations are not retroactive, it is best to schedule the appointment at the beginning of the semester.

The information and records you provide regarding any disability-related needs are treated as confidential information under applicable federal and state laws as well as university policies and are only provided to individuals who are required to receive such information on a need-to-know basis.

If you have any questions, please contact us at the number listed below. We look forward to working with you.
